Read your InBody sheet in plain English
Enter the numbers printed on your result sheet. The interpreter compares each one to the general reference ranges the manufacturer publishes and tells you what a coach would do with it.

The sheet is a map, not a verdict
- Body fat...
- Visceral fat level...
- Water balance...
- Phase angle...
- InBody Score...
- Skeletal muscle share...
General reference ranges commonly cited in the manufacturer's education materials. Not a diagnosis. Talk to your physician about anything flagged, especially water balance and visceral fat.
How the interpreter reads each number
The tool applies the same rough ranges a coach uses on a first read of a sheet. They are starting points for a conversation, not clinical cutoffs.
| Metric | What it is | Reference the tool uses | What a coach does with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Percent body fat | Fat mass divided by total weight | Healthy bands by sex and age; women run higher than men at every age | Sets the recomposition target and the protein floor |
| Visceral fat level | Estimated fat around the organs, reported 1 to 20 | Under 10 is the commonly cited healthy zone; 10 and above is flagged | Prioritizes consistent strength plus daily walking; physician conversation if high |
| ECW/TBW ratio | Extracellular water as a share of total body water | Balanced near 0.360 to 0.390; higher can mean inflammation, swelling or dehydration | Rescan under controlled conditions; refer out if it stays high |
| Phase angle | A cell-health and muscle-quality signal | Roughly 5 to 7 degrees in healthy adults, drifting lower with age | Progressive strength work is what moves it |
| InBody Score | Summary of muscle and fat balance | About 80 is the reference; more muscle raises it, more fat lowers it | Tracks the trend across scans, ignores single readings |
| Skeletal muscle mass | Muscle you control, as a share of body weight | Higher shares mean more metabolic reserve; the tool flags low shares for age | The single number most worth protecting after 40 |
A worked example
A 52 year old woman prints 34 percent body fat, visceral fat level 11, ECW/TBW 0.392, phase angle 5.1 and an InBody Score of 71. The tool reads body fat as above the healthy band for her age, visceral fat as flagged, water balance as slightly high, phase angle as on the low side and the score as below the reference. The coach-scope translation: two strength sessions a week, a protein floor, daily walking, a rescan in eight weeks under the same conditions, and a note to mention the visceral fat and water numbers at her next physical.
Questions people ask
Before you trust the number
Is this interpreter a medical assessment?
No. It reads the general reference ranges the scan manufacturer publishes in its education materials and turns them into coach-scope language. Fluid, visceral fat and anything that looks off belongs with your physician.
Where do I get an InBody scan in Carmel?
A free consultation at FlexWerk in Carmel City Center includes a free InBody scan with a coach who walks you through the sheet in person. Bring an old result sheet and this page if you want to compare.
Why do my numbers change from one scan to the next?
Hydration, meals, workouts and time of day all move body water, which moves lean mass and body fat estimates. Scan under the same conditions each time and compare trends, not single readings.
